FAQ
Everything you'd ask before hiring a developer.
Cost, timelines, ownership, payments, support — answered plainly. If yours isn't here, ask me directly.
Working with me
- Business websites start from $600, online stores from $1,500, and custom software or mobile apps from $3,000. After a free 30-minute call you get one fixed price in writing within 48 hours — no hourly billing, and no surprise invoices.
- You never have to trust blindly. The code is in your GitHub from the first commit, you see a working demo every week, and payments are split into milestones tied to what you have already seen working. Everything is built on a mainstream stack and documented as it goes, so if I were ever unavailable, another developer could pick it up from your repository.
- My freelance work runs alongside my role at Gravitones, so I take on one freelance project at a time and plan it around fixed weekly hours. Your proposal states the hours per week and the date of every milestone, and the Friday demo shows whether we're on track.
- You do, completely. Source code, design files, domains, hosting and app store accounts are all set up in your name.
- A business website takes 2–3 weeks, an online store 4–6 weeks, and custom software or mobile apps 6–12 weeks. The exact timeline is written into the proposal with weekly milestones.
- Not at all — most clients aren't. I explain decisions in plain language, you review everything visually through demos, and you get a training video for the admin panel at handover.
- You get 30 days of free bug fixes. After that you can run it yourself, call me for occasional changes, or choose a monthly care plan for hosting, updates, backups and small improvements.
- Yes. I work remotely, and my largest build so far is a live marketplace in Kenya. I'm on IST (UTC+5:30), which overlaps comfortably with the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and with US mornings.
- Small tweaks are absorbed in the weekly sprint. Larger changes get a short written quote before any work starts, so you always decide with the price in front of you.
- Every project runs on a short written agreement covering scope, price, milestones, confidentiality and the transfer of all rights in the work to you. Each milestone gets an invoice, payable by bank transfer — international clients can also pay through Wise or PayPal.
- Yes, happily, before we discuss anything confidential. Your idea and data stay private.
- You get agency-level output — design, web, mobile, backend and SEO — without paying for account managers and office overhead, and you speak directly with the person building your product.
Online store
About this service- Shopify is a great start. Custom makes sense when monthly app fees add up, you need multi-vendor features, local payment methods like M-Pesa or UPI flows Shopify can't do well, or you want full control of your data and checkout. On the free call I'll tell you honestly which fits.
- Razorpay, Stripe, PayPal, Cashfree and M-Pesa (Safaricom Daraja API, already live in production for Vedrastores), plus cash-on-delivery flows.
- Yes. Every store ships with an admin panel for products, stock, orders, coupons and customers, plus a recorded walkthrough so new staff can learn it in an afternoon.
- Yes — products, customers and order history can be migrated from Shopify, WooCommerce or spreadsheets, with redirects so you keep your Google rankings.
Business website
About this service- Every site ships with technical SEO done properly — page titles, meta descriptions, structured data, sitemap, fast load times and Search Console. Rankings also depend on content and competition, so I'll give you a simple content plan too.
- Yes. You get an admin/CMS where you can update text, images, services, team members and blog posts without touching code.
- I structure every page and write conversion copy for headlines and calls-to-action. For long-form content, I work from your notes or a short interview.
- Yes. I keep what's working (URLs, rankings, content) and rebuild the rest, with 301 redirects so you don't lose search traffic.
Mobile app
About this service- One codebase serves iOS and Android, which typically saves 30–50% of the cost and every future update ships to both platforms at once. Apps like Instagram, Shopify and Discord use React Native in production.
- Yes. I prepare the listings, screenshots and privacy declarations and handle the review process for both Google Play and the App Store, under your own developer accounts.
- Most apps need at least an admin dashboard and a landing page. I build those alongside the app so everything shares one backend.
- Usually $0–$50/month for hosting at launch scale, plus Apple's $99/year and Google's one-time $25 developer fees. I'll estimate your running costs in the proposal.
Inventory system
About this service- Off-the-shelf tools work until your process doesn't fit them — custom bundles, batch tracking, your own approval steps or integration with your store. Custom software fits how you already work and has no per-user fees.
- Yes. Stock syncs both ways with your online store, so a sale online reduces shelf stock and a delivery updates the website automatically.
- Yes. I map and import your existing products, stock levels and suppliers from Excel or CSV so you go live with real data on day one.
- Yes — the system is fully responsive, and an optional mobile app turns any phone into a barcode scanner for stock-takes and deliveries.
HR / people system
About this service- Yes — role-based permissions, encrypted connections, hashed passwords, audit logs and daily backups. The system is hosted in your own cloud account, so you own and control the data.
- It produces payroll-ready attendance, overtime and leave summaries. Full salary calculation can be added for your country's rules, or exported to the payroll tool your accountant already uses.
- Yes. Check-in works from any phone browser or an optional app, with GPS geo-fencing or QR codes at your premises to prevent proxy attendance.
- That's the point of custom software. Your policies — carry-forwards, comp-offs, half-days, region-specific holidays — are built in exactly as you run them.
CRM / sales system
About this service- If an off-the-shelf CRM fits, use it — I'll tell you so. Custom wins when per-seat fees grow with your team, your sales process has steps those tools can't model, or you need tight integration with your own website, inventory or billing.
- Yes, through the official WhatsApp Business API — templates for follow-ups, quotes and payment reminders, with replies logged on the customer timeline.
- Yes. Contacts, deals and notes import from Excel, CSV or most CRMs, de-duplicated and mapped to your new pipeline.
- Adoption is designed in: fewer fields, mobile-friendly screens and automation that removes data entry. Your team reviews the designs before anything is built.
Custom software
About this service- Yes. I scope the smallest version that proves your idea, ship it in weeks, and build it on architecture that can scale when it works — so you don't pay for a rewrite later.
- They usually do. Small changes fit inside the weekly sprint; bigger ones get a written quote before any work starts, so the price never surprises you.
- You do — fully. The code lives in your GitHub from the first commit, deployed to cloud accounts in your name.
- Yes. I start with a paid code audit, tell you honestly what's worth keeping, then fix, extend or rebuild in stages.
AI & automation
About this service- It's built to answer only from your approved content, cite where the answer came from, and hand over to a human when it isn't sure. You can review every conversation.
- AI usage is billed per message by the model provider and is usually a few dollars a month for small businesses. I'll estimate it from your expected volume before you commit.
- No. I use API access with data-retention controls, and your documents stay in a database you own.
- Yes — search, summaries, drafting, classification and chat can be added to most existing systems through an API layer, without a rebuild.
